Maybe some of the best advice I've ever received. Everyone's happy when it's 80 and sunny. But how much do we let the weather determine our mood...our attitude...our life. Don't get me wrong, I feel better on a beautiful day (especially on the top of Mt. Haleakala in Maui at sunrise!) But how much do you complain about the weather when it's bad? How much do you complain about things you cannot control? You can’t control the weather, but you have 100% control over your mood, your attitude, and your actions no matter what the temperature is or how bleak the forecast looks to be. I say to my athletes all of the time, “It’s easy when it’s 80 degrees and sunny. What will you do when it’s 35 and sleeting out?” In essence, I’m asking them “What will you do when things get tough? When things aren’t perfect? When things don’t go the way you want them to?” Will you take a day off? Will you complain or use it as an excuse? Will you be less motivated to put in the effort? Will you give up? Not if you carry the weather inside of you.
